Thoughts on 2010

It's almost 2011!

Which means that 2010 is almost over, which is always a good thing.

Not saying that I want time to fly by or anything, but I'd like to put my first full year of living in South Carolina behind me and look towards the future (CORNY AS SHIT, I KNOW).

So I've lived here for a full year, which is strange to me because I have been telling people for the past 6 months that I've only lived here 6 months, therefore lying to everyone I come in contact with. Oh well.

But it hasn't been a bust, I will admit. I actually graduated from something! Not that I've actually used my "degree" towards anything as of yet, but I'm trying to be optimistic. I've kept the same job for the whole year (with the exception of the first two weeks of December where I unsuccessfully moved to Charleston, got saddled with a totally shit job, quit said job and came back to Beaufort. EPIC FAIL). I finally got to see Interpol. I got a bunch of ink done, very high quality if I do say so myself. I've met some great people, survived a year of drinking nothing but coffee without having a heart attack, and spent more money on clothing that I'll probably never wear. The V-Dub is still running, which is a huge bonus. I've had my hair black, brown, purple, red, strawberry blonde, and now platinum. I've thrifted A LOT. I crocheted a bunch of hats, most of which won't even fit on my massive squash, but it's all about practice! At this point I'm kind of grasping at straws of things I've done, but I have to stay optimistic somehow.

So 2011, I'm ready for you to come. I want to do a lot more than I've done in 2010, and I think that it's very possible. And as I walked my lazy pug around tonight in the snow that will never stick to the ground, I figured that the best thing that has happened to me this year is the fact that I'm still here, even when some people I knew and loved aren't anymore. I can't say that that's really an achievement, but when you don't know what's going to happen from one day to the next, I'm making it one.

Come on, New Year, make it a good one.

New Hair Color, New Outlook

I wasn't lying when I said I never keep up with blogs. But that ends TODAY!

I can't believe I haven't blogged since Interpol, but if it's any consolation I haven't accomplished much since then. Trying to figure my life out, one day at a time.

I was supposed to move to Boston in the new year. Yeah, not happening.....so it's back to square one. I would really like to try out Charleston, my brother lives there and I have liked it every time I've visited. Or Savannah, but it's expensive and I lived there when I went to SCAD. Yeah, not so successful. BUT they have a Marc by Marc Jacobs. Oh, how I would love to work there. But retail jobs legit never cover rent. Sadness.

I think I would really miss being a barista. As lame as it sounds I can actually imagine making a career out of coffee. Literally as I wrote that last sentence I remember playing The Sims when I was younger and how one of the "Slacker" careers was a barista. OUCH. Maybe I should rethink that one.

So it's with my failed Boston attempt plus the recent loss of a family member who I wish I had been able to be closer to that I pledge this: New Hair, New Outlook. If the color of my hair can be lighter in an hour, why can't I lighten up everything as quickly? Lighten up at work, at home, at life. Stop caring so much about what other people think of me. Stop worrying about my lack of a serious boyfriend or my beloved tattoos hindering any chance I have at a career.

It's time to start living life. La vie en rose. Allez, viens.

INTERPOL!

So last night I finally got to go see one of my favorite ALL TIME FREAKIN BANDS. And they actually came to Charleston! Yeah, I'm just as shocked as everyone else was.

Special thanks go out to Steve Jobs for making the iPhone 4 camera particularly epic! I actually shot some video during a few songs (Including Not Even Jail, which is one of my favorite Interpol songs), but I'm being super lazy and I don't want to upload it right now.

In other recent news, it looks like I'm possibly moving to Boston by January. Fingers crossed.

Thrifty Finds: NORWEGIAN SWEATERS!

It's no secret that I have a serious shopping addiction. Seriously though, what chick doesn't? But instead of spending all of my money on Net-A-Porter I have fully embraced the good ol' Goodwill! I have always been a huge fan of thrift stores/Salvation Army/Goodwill Stores because I find the craziest shit for dirt cheap, and NO ONE else is going to have it which makes it even more exciting. Think about it, nothing beats digging through piles of old smelly clothing that an old man/woman may or may not have died in! But in all seriousness I love LOVE these places and lately I've been hitting the sweater goldmine, probably because it's about 100 degrees outside here and just the thought of wearing a wool sweater is vomit-inducing. These two handmade vintage Norwegian sweaters are so amazing, from the patterns to the intricate pewter buttons.

Can't beat this color scheme!

I seriously can't wait for fall so I can wear these. In fact I've got a few more that I'll try to photograph. I've gotten some awesome stuff at the GW/SA lately so there will be more dedicated posts. I'll give you one hint: GOLD DUELING LION HEAD BELT BUCKLE.

Matryoshka LOVE!

I've been stuck home for two days due to my cripple foot, and to say that I'm going crazy is an understatement. I legit spent 6 HOURS drawing a single doodle-esque picture today, that's how bored I am. FUCK YOU BUSTED FOOT! Hopefully I'll be cleared for work again by the end of the week.

I just got my newest tattoos on Friday. Well, I got them finished, they were started a month or so ago. And it's a MATRYOSHKA DOLL HALF SLEEVE! AND A FINGER BOW!

I have some older tattoos, 5 others to be exact, and I will get around to posting those at a later date. But a mother is always proud of her new kids. My Russian babies are my current pride and joy!

This is legit my fifth attempt at blogging. It's not like it doesn't interest me, I just forget about it and then by the time I remember I even have a blog I give up. But my mid-year resolution is to actually start a blog.

That and I fractured my foot and need something to occupy my time.

Background: I am a current barista, former fashion student, licensed esthetician, tattoo connoisseur who has a slight addiction to thrifing. So this blog is dedicated to skin art and thrifting! I post my scores, my ink, and other interesting things, and who knows? Maybe if I ever get readers you can send me your best thrift finds too.

Let's go, bitches.
